Located in Kanazawa City, Ishikawa Prefectural Library was designed by Mitsuru Senda + Environment Design Institute. Passing through the entrance with its low ceiling, a semicircular space opens up before your eyes. Tiered bookshelves and reading seats form an arc, their openness naturally drawing the gaze upward and deeper within. Ascending through different levels and looking back reveals a completely different landscape: multiple layers of bookshelves envelop the field of view, creating the sensation of being drawn into a vortex of books. This three-dimensional expanse and the shifting spatial expressions as one moves cannot be captured in a single photograph. During filming, we placed great emphasis on the moment the view opens up from the entrance and how the perspective changes with height and orientation. From close-ups of the shelves to expansive views overlooking the entire atrium, the micro drone departs from normal walking paths to shift vertically, tracing the connections between bookshelves and seating. Our goal was to convey both the magnificent whole and the joy of wandering within it.
